- CHI 105C: Intermediate Chinese IA four-week summer intensive language course, conducted online via Zoom. Students work on developing a strong foundation for modern spoken and written Chinese, with emphasis on the reading of contemporary Chinese dialogue. Admission by application. Prerequisite: CHI 101-102, or equivalent. This course will consist of five two-hour synchronous classes and five one-hour individual tutorial sessions weekly.
- CHI 107C: Intermediate Chinese IIA four-week summer intensive language course, which is a continuation of CHI 105C, conducted online via Zoom. This course continues the intensive study of modern spoken and written Chinese and includes the survey of modern cultural and social issues. Admission by application. Prerequisite: CHI 105C or equivalent. The course consists of five two-hour synchronous classes and five one-hour individual tutorial sessions weekly.
- CHI 305C: Intensive Third-year Modern Chinese IA four-week summer intensive language course, conducted online via Zoom. This course is designed for students who are interested in current political and social issues in China and Taiwan. Reading materials will be selected from newspapers of the People's Republic of China. Admission by application. Prerequisites: CHI 103-108, 105-107, or equivalent. The course consists of five two-hour synchronous classes and five one-hour individual tutorial sessions weekly.
- CHI 306C: Intensive Third-year Modern Chinese IIA four-week summer intensive language course, which is a continuation of CHI 305C, conducted online via Zoom. This course is designed to further improve each student's facility in written and oral expression through a close study of essays written by influential Chinese intellectuals. Essay topics include issues of women's emancipation, family systems, and modernization. The course consists of five two-hour synchronous classes and five one-hour individual tutorial sessions weekly.
- CHI 405C: Intensive Fourth-Year Modern Chinese IA four-week summer intensive language course, conducted online via Zoom. This course focuses on readings and discussions from Chinese scholarly journals, essays, and newspaper articles. Students are exposed to a variety of modern Chinese literary genres, as well as some of the major substantive issues that modern Chinese intellectuals have faced. Admission by application. Prerequisites: CHI 303-304, 305-306, or equivalent. The course consists of five two-hour synchronous classes and five one-hour individual tutorial sessions weekly.
- CHI 406C: Intensive Fourth-Year Modern Chinese IIA four-week summer intensive language course, which is a continuation of CHI 405C, conducted online via Zoom. Continued readings and discussion on academic written materials and scholarly writings on literature. This course also exposes students to the social issues China has faced in recent years while discussing various aspects of contemporary Chinese society. Prerequisites: CHI 405C or equivalent. The course consists of five two-hour synchronous classes and five one-hour individual tutorial sessions weekly.
