- CLG 102: Beginner's Greek: Attic ProseStudents will learn to read Attic Greek with facility and will by the end of term have moved from grammatical exercises to their first real text.
- CLG 103: Ancient Greek: An Intensive IntroductionThis course is an intensive introduction to classical Greek. It is equivalent to CLG 101 and 102. We will move briskly through elementary grammar and vocabulary and will by the end of the term read Attic Greek texts with facility. There will be daily assignments and regular quizzes.
- CLG 108: HomerIntroduction to Homeric dialect, oral poetry, and meter, we will discuss literary techniques, the historical background of epic, and Homer's role in the development of Greek thought.
- CLG 214: Greek Prose Authors: Demosthenes, Political SpeechesThis course will introduce students to the political speeches of Demosthenes in a bid to appreciate both Athenian oratory and its enduring influence on subsequent political rhetoric down to our own time. We will pay special attention to style, syntax, and the subtler arts of Greek sentence structure and the ways these were marshalled for the purposes of political persuasion.
