- CLG 102: Beginner's Greek: Attic ProseStudents will learn to read Attic Greek with facility and will by the end of term have moved from grammatical exercises to their first real text.
- CLG 103: Ancient Greek: An Intensive IntroductionAn intensive introduction to classical Greek, this course is equivalent to CLG101/102, and will allow you to enroll in CLG105 in the Fall. Students can expect daily assignments, weekly quizzes, and a brisk pace through elementary Greek grammar and syntax.
- CLG 108: HomerIntroduction to Homeric dialect, oral poetry, and meter, we will discuss literary techniques, the historical background of epic, and Homer's role in the development of Greek thought.
- CLG 240/HLS 240/MED 240: Introduction to Post-Classical Greek from the Late Antique to the Byzantine EraThis course will focus on the emergence of a 'common' (Koinê) Greek language adopted by an increasingly Hellenized eastern Mediterranean world of Jews, Pagans, Christians, Romans and Greeks. Readings include the Bible, Jewish Tragedy, Stoic philosophy, and hagiography, as well as introduction to papyri and manuscripts of post-classical texts.
