A four-week summer intensive language course taught in Beijing, China, at Beijing Normal University. This course focuses on readings and discussions from Chinese scholarly journals, essays, and newspaper articles. Students are exposed to a variety of modern Chinese literary genres, as well as some of the major substantive issues that modern Chinese intellectuals have faced. Admission by application. Prerequisites: CHI 303-304, 305-306, or equivalent. The course consists of five two-hour classes and five two-hour drill sessions weekly, plus individual tutorial sessions.
