Some say there are two ways to understand the world: as parachutists or truffle-hunters. Where the former take the broad view of events from above, the latter zoom in on the specific and local approach, from below. Here we reject the binary, combining the two sensibilities for lessons about the past, present, and future. What could a close examination of your own life experience or that of your community reveal about the world? And how, in turn, might those revelations--anchored in social science or the humanities--advance the movement for democracy, justice, equity or care?
