The Ottoman Empire and the World Around It in the Long 18th Century

This graduate seminar focuses on some of the major themes, debates, and sources of the history of the Ottoman Empire in the later period, roughly between 1650 and 1850. It explores cultural, intellectual, spiritual, social, political, economic, and environmental developments in Southeast Europe, Anatolia, and the Arabic-speaking lands under the Ottoman Empire towards the modern era.
