We study the original template of 'Critical Theory' put forward by Frankfurt School theorists and other interwar Marxists, and ask what, if anything, remains viable of that template today. Does Critical Theory need philosophical foundations? Does it need cultural, and also populist, strategies for change? Is it still possible to advance `ideology critique' in an increasingly pluralist society? And what about capitalism...?
