America's founding principles of equality conflict with its record on civil rights. No more is this the case than the issue of race in American politics. This course brings together a wide range of scholarship about race and democracy to encourage thinking about equity and fairness across public systems, in policy making, and why it matters. Specific attention is given to how these racial dynamics are articulated in terms of public opinion and political behavior, with some consideration of racial equity tools and culturally responsive evaluation.
