Content Focus: Humans are complex systems where mammalian cells and microbes interact to promote health and ward off invaders. This course covers multiple aspects of human-microbe interactions and how they are studied. Example topics include the innate and adaptive immune systems, inflammation, the microbiome, and pathogenesis. Process Focus: Giving a good talk is essential to the success of all scientists. This class teaches students how to give compelling seminars. Many of the topics are taught by the students, who receive specific feedback on preparing slides, speaking styles, and presenting data and models.
