This seminar familiarizes students with some of the fundamental theoretical, philosophical, and interpretive works on aesthetic formation, temporality, and the techne of sense-making from whose interrelation critical and dialectical literary, social, and media theory all continue to derive today. These include works by Lessing, Hegel, Marx, Saussure, Austin, Husserl, Freud, Jakobson, and Spitzer.
