Policy Workshop: Puerto Rico's Renewable Energy Mandates

SPI 591D

Info tab content
After Hurricane María, Puerto Rico approved the most aggressive renewable energy transition mandate in the United States. However, there are groups trying to retract these mandates. Multiple hurdles keep popping up from unionized workers at the fossil fuel burning plants; from fossil fuel vendors; from politicians supporting the existing centralized energy structure; and from bondholders and other creditors. Students explore and study each of these challenges, develop a road map with public policy alternatives and present their findings to U.S. Department of Energy officials in Washington DC.
