What does it mean to photograph yourself? Is it an act of self-exploration, narcissism, self-love, representational justice, performance? What can our bodies teach us if we pay attention? Through making analog self-portraits, students will reflect on how it is to be in their particular body. Classes will be spent in the Black and White Darkroom and participating in guided somatic workshops that foreground embodiment and play. Students will learn the basics of film photography and experimental darkroom techniques while reflecting on their identity and their first semester at Princeton.
