Built in 1948 and expanded several times, the Harvey S. Firestone Memorial Library is the main campus library. As one of the most distinguished research libraries in the world, the University library system contains more than 13 million holdings in 11 buildings. Firestone is the repository for many of the humanities and social science collections and the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections. Additionally, it houses several areas open to the public. The Cotsen Children's Library offers programming and a whimsical gallery, and Firestone's Main Gallery and Milberg Gallery feature items from the library's rich collections.
