- MPP 213: Projects in Instrumental Performance: Chamber MusicInstrumental chamber music class of the standard repertory of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Preparation for performance of ensembles. Each ensemble's repertoire will be determined in consultation with the instructors during the first week of classes.
- MPP 214/MTD 214: Projects in Vocal Performance: VoicecraftIn this course we will explore the extraordinary capabilities of the human voice. Using western classical vocal techniques as a starting point we will move into an exploration of extended techniques from both inside and outside of that tradition (including the use of amplification and microphone technique). We will work collaboratively to create new work, culminating in an informal performance. We will be joined by special guests - performers and/or composers - who will share their insights and processes. The course is open to singers, non-singers, composers or non-composers : all are welcome. Be prepared to make some noise!
- MPP 219/MTD 219: Opera PerformanceDIDO REIMAGINED - Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, and Errollyn Wallen's Dido's Ghost This class will combine a staged, in-the-round performance of Purcell's emblematic masterpiece "Dido and Aeneas" with the in-depth study and performance of selected scenes from composer Errollyn Wallen's brand new "sequel" to Purcell's opera - "Dido's Ghost".
- MPP 231: Princeton University Steel BandThe Princeton University Steel Band is a performance ensemble focusing on the music of Trinidad and Tobago.
- MPP 251: Jazz FundamentalsThis 12-week performance course is designed to give you the musical tools you will need to build a foundation in jazz improvisation. You will gain an understanding of jazz harmony, jazz scales and modes, blues forms, deep listening/ear training, sight reading, memorize jazz repertoire, identify common jazz forms, identify important jazz artists, and build practice strategies.
- MPP 299: Independent Instruction in Voice or InstrumentIndependent instruction in voice or instrument is an intensive immersion in all aspects of recreating music for performance. Lessons are geared towards the development and embedding of solid technique, and the application of this technique to proper style and musical expression. Issues explored include but are not limited to interpretation, stylistic appropriateness, historical context, theoretical/syntactical underpinnings, the avoidance of injuries, audition and performance strategies, and career planning.
