This course offers an interdisciplinary introduction to debates and policy questions related to energy, environment, and development. Some of the topics to be addressed are changing patterns of energy and electricity use in developing countries; the environmental consequences of energy production and use; the relationship between energy and well-being; choices of different energy technologies for climate mitigation and the social and livelihood implications that flow from their adoption or expansion; and ecological limits to growth and their implications. Readings in the course are drawn from a variety of disciplines.
